Visit Neiafu (Vava'u), Tonga - Neiafu (Vava'u), Tonga Cruises - Neiafu (Vava'u), Tonga Tours Travel Videos HD, World Travel Guide http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=World1Tube Vava’u is a group of more than 50 islands in Tonga, about 150 miles north of Tongatapu. They are either raised coral limestone or coral atolls. The beautiful harbour opposite the main town of Neiafu (known as the Port of Refuge Harbour) is a common destination for yachties sailing the South Pacific. The waters of the islands are known for their clarity, it being said that you can see the bottom at 40 metres. The area attracts many humpback whales between June and November and there are lots of companies organising tours to see them. There are numerous places to stay, to suit most budgets See Neiafu (Vava'u), Tonga ========================= Vanilla. Vava'u is a major production area for high quality vanilla and wandering around the countryside on the main island will give you a chance to see how the vanilla bean grows. The plant, a member of the orchid family, has a small cream or yellow flower which must be hand pollinated. The bean then takes nine months to grow, after which it is dried and cured, which develops the flavour and turns the pod dark brown or black. It is said to be the most labour-intensive agricultural product in the world. The value of individual beans means that farmers go to great lengths to protect them from theft, including pricking their individual code numbers on each bean with a pin. Mt. Talau National Park. This was established in 1995 to preserve one of the few remaining areas of relatively undisturbed native forest. It is located on the main island. The Park has several tree species that are endangered in Tonga. Most of the birds and reptiles native to Tonga can be found here. Mt. Talau is also important as a source of Tongan legends. The entrance is approximately 2 km from the center of Neiafu aand the trail is approximately 1km. ‘Ene’io Botanical Garden., Tu’anekivale village (on the east coast of the main island.), The garden aims to promote the survival of native and exotic species and also to provide a sanctuary for bird life. Conservation successes include tree ferns, sandalwood species, bamboos and breadfruit species. You can leave a permanent memory by planting your own tree. There is also a VisitorsCenter where you can see tapa and other artefacts being made and sample the traditional drink of kava. Lunch is provided (if booked in advance) on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. On Thursday evening there is a Tonga Feast. Do Neiafu (Vava'u), Tonga ============================ Walks. There are several good walks from Neiafu including the climb up Mt. Talau (131m-see above) which has excellent views over the harbor. Toafa Church on the west point of Vava'u has good views of the cliffs of Hunga island and other islands. Boat tours. Day trips around the islands are available from several companies for about T$50 per person. These tours visit Mariners Cave (which is accessible through an underwater tunnel), Swallows Cave (excellent for snorkelling) and one or two of the many secluded beaches around the Group. Vava'u Island Express offers day tours and snorkelling trips Diving. Visibility is excellent and the diving is great. Lots of dive sites, offering hard and soft corals, sea fan grottos, wall diving and magnificent caves. Equipment can be rented and diving tours arranged. There are several PADI qualified dive instructors. Companies include Beluga Diving [6], Dive Vava’u [7] (now closed), and Dolphin Pacific Diving [8], Sailing. Vava'u is one of the most popular yacht cruising areas of the South Pacific. You can charter boats without provisioning or fully provisioned with a skipper and a cook. Short or long duration charters can be arranged. Whale Watching. From June to November humpback whales calve and mate in the calm waters. It is not only the sight that is fascinating: the male whales sing. Whale songs vary according to location: each year the song at each location changes. The effect of their singing on humans swimming with them is magical with the sound vibrating through your entire body. Whale watching excursions are available from Sailing Safaris , Endangered Encounters , Melinda Sea Adventures, which offers whale tours under sail , Whale Watch Vava'u and Vava'u Adventures , among others. Snorkelling. There are some great beaches throughout Vava'u. Snorkelling and reef viewing opportunities abound.Vava'u Island Express offers snorkelling trips Kayaking. Guided tours of six and eight days to remote islands are available between May and December by the Friendly Islands Kayak Company. You may run into turtles, porpoises, whales, flying foxes and many seabirds.

Thanks for watching......... 1) Nuku'alofa 2) Neiafu 3) Haveluloto 4) Vaini 5) Pangai 6) Ohonua 7) Hihifo 8) Atata 9) Tongatapu 10) Houma Tonga, officially the Kingdom of Tonga, is a Polynesian sovereign state and archipelago comprising 176 islands with a surface area of about 750 square kilometres (290 sq mi) scattered over 700,000 square kilometres (270,000 sq mi) of the southern Pacific Ocean, of which 52 are inhabited by its 103,000 people. Tonga stretches over about 800 kilometres (500 mi) in a north-south line about a third of the distance from New Zealand to Hawaii. It is surrounded by Fiji and Wallis and Futuna (France) to the northwest, Samoa to the northeast, Niue to the east, Kermadec (part of New Zealand) to the southwest, and New Caledonia (France) and Vanuatu to the west. Tonga became known as the Friendly Islands because of the congenial reception accorded to Captain James Cook on his first visit in 1773. He arrived at the time of the ʻinasi festival, the yearly donation of the first fruits to the Tuʻi Tonga (the islands' paramount chief) and so received an invitation to the festivities. According to the writer William Mariner, the chiefs wanted to kill Cook during the gathering but could not agree on a plan. Tonga has never lost its sovereignty to a foreign power. In 2010 Tonga took a decisive step towards becoming a fully functioning constitutional monarchy, after legislative reforms paved the way for its first partial representative elections. An Austronesian-speaking group linked to the archaeological construct known as the Lapita cultural complex reached and colonised Tonga around 1500--1000 BCE.[8] Scholars have much debated the exact dates of the initial settlement of Tonga, but recently it has been thought that the first settlers came to the oldest town, Nukuleka, about 826 BCE, ± 8 years.[9] Not much is known before European contact because of the lack of a writing system, but oral history has survived and been recorded after the arrival of the Europeans. The Tongan people first encountered Europeans in 1616 when the Dutch vessel Eendracht made a short visit to trade. By the 12th century Tongans and the Tongan paramount chief, the Tuʻi Tonga, had a reputation across the central Pacific—from Niue, Samoa, Rotuma, Wallis & Futuna, New Caledonia to Tikopia—leading some historians to speak of a Tuʻi Tonga Empire. In the 15th century and again in the 17th, civil war erupted. Into this situation the first European explorers arrived, beginning in 1616 with the Dutch explorers Willem Schouten and Jacob Le Maire (who called on the northern island of Niuatoputapu), and in 1643 with Abel Tasman (who visited Tongatapu and Haʻapai). Later noteworthy European visitors included James Cook (Royal Navy) in 1773, 1774, and 1777, Alessandro Malaspina (Spanish Navy) in 1793, the first London missionaries in 1797, and the Wesleyan Methodist Rev. Walter Lawry in 1822. In 1845 the ambitious young warrior, strategist, and orator Tāufaʻāhau united Tonga into a kingdom. He held the chiefly title of Tuʻi Kanokupolu, but had been baptised[by whom?] with the name Siaosi ("George") in 1831. In 1875, with the help of missionary Shirley Waldemar Baker, he declared Tonga a constitutional monarchy; formally adopted the western royal style; emancipated the "serfs"; enshrined a code of law, land tenure, and freedom of the press; and limited the power of the chiefs. More Celebrity News ►► http://bit.ly/SubClevverNews The event hosted by Matt Lauer, Meredith Vieira, and Hoda Kotb, aired on NBC and holy crap, it was as if World of Color met Small World. The ceremony was of course held in Rio at the Maracana Stadium with over 6,000 dancers, visual masterpieces, and a positive message to boot surrounding unity, pride, and climate change. The countdown to show time was a spectacle in and of itself. There were overhead projectors and an army of performers dressed in reflective silver suits that brought reflective blankets to life by creating a checkerboard as lights projected beneath them. The amount of planning that had to go into that to make it work must have been crazy and it went off without a hitch. The singing of the Brazilian national anthem was just as beautiful performed by Paulinho da Viola as a group of children wrapped in different flags gathered around the flagpole as the Brazillian flag was raised. Then the magic really kicked off forthe segment meant to portray the history of Brazil during which performers acted out the habitation of the Amazon by descending from ribbons and easily creating the dopest forest I’ve ever seen. And if you’re mind wasn’t already blown from that, then they pulled off this optical illusion where out of nowhere a metropolis emerged as the overhead projectors made it look like buildings were legit rising from the ground as performers parkoured from rooftop to rooftop, full on Cirque de Soleil style. But no doubt one of my favorite moments was getting to see supermodel Gisele Bunchen rock the runway once again as a tribute to her homeland. Her dress was designed by Brazilian designer, Alexandre Herch-co-vitch and it flowed beautifully as she strutted across the stadium in what could easily break records as the longest runway walk ever. Oh and sidenots, then there was this really attractive flag bearer for team Tonga who you couldn’t help but focus on because dude was ripped and someone oiled him down generously. You already know the internet freakout out. Then how cool was it that for the first time in OIympic history there is a team of refugees consisting of ten athletes from Syria, South Sudan, Ethiopia, and Democratic Republic of the Congo. When they entered the stadium, the crowd roared with excitement after the President of the International Olympic Committee spoke highly of the team saying QUOTE - "This will be a symbol of hope for all the refugees in our world, and will make the world better aware of the magnitude of this crisis. It is also a signal to the international community that refugees are our fellow human beings and are an enrichment to society.” Then representing for Team U.S.A, Michael Phelps was given the honor of being the flag bearer and rightfully so because dude has won a crap ton of gold medals. He expressed his excitement about getting the opportunity to hold the flag on the Today show saying QUOTE - "It's something I'm obviously looking forward to. There's definitely going to be a lot of emotions. It's a huge honor to me." Another epic moment was when the stadium floor was suddenly filled with large, spinning, mirrored boxes that then sprouted greenery that formed the Olympic rings. Then the icing on the cake was when they exploded with green confetti. I mean if you’re going to make it rain, might as well do it big. Then the party really got started when dancers decked out in colors, rushed to the stage and busted out in a full on dance party to celebrate diversity. Everyone was clearly having a great time and when camera’s panned to Gisele Bunchen, she was getting her life. And of course, we can’t talk about the Olympics without mentioning the torch! I’m convinced they borrowed the caulderon from Hogwarts. It looked so epic! We’re talkin’ rotating spheres of mirrors. If that doesn’t summon the chosen one I don’t know what will. The ceremony ended with a very important message about climate change during which a beautiful poem was read aloud while a young boy nurtured a tree on stage. The icing on the cake is that there have been reports that all of the athletes have been asked to plant trees upon leaving Rio. Pretty cool right? I think the opening ceremony is hands down always my favorite part of the Olympics so I want to hear what moments were your favorite.
